Kidnapped Channels TV Correspondent Released - Crime

The kidnapped Channels Television correspondent, Mr. Tope Kutiyi, has been released.
This development was made known by management of the Television station on Wednesday.

It would be recalled that Kutiyi, in the early hours of Monday was kidnapped by unknown armed men at his residence in Federal Housing Estate, Umuguma area of Imo state.

Meanwhile, the abductors who spoke with a friend of the victim had earlier demanded a ransom of N15 million.

A press statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Imo State Governor, Mr. Sam Onwuemeodo, said the attention of the state government had been drawn to the incident.

He reminded the kidnappers that the ‘young man was only a reporter.’

According to him, those behind the kidnapping have just decided to inconvenience the victim and his family.

“A journalist cannot afford to pay any ransom. To us he must have been a victim of mistaken identity,” Onwuemeodo had said.

It’s, however, unclear if the said amount was paid to secure the journalist’s release.
