– APC chieftains all smiles as they left Aso Rock after the meeting with Osinbajo
– The office of viice president issued a statement commenting the purpose of the meeting
The
chieftains of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have met on February
24 in Aso Rock villa while President Muhammadu Buhari was away in Saudi
Arabia for a state visit.
State House correspondents failed to receive any comments from the participants of the meeting.
Frantic
efforts by the State House Correspondents to get a word from many
chieftains of the All Progressives Congress, APC who rose from a crucial
meeting with Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo at the presidential Villa on
Wednesday afternoon met a brick wall.
National leader of the party,
Bola Tinubu; former Vice President Atiku Abubakar; the party’s national
chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun; the Senate president Bukola Saraki
and others met behind closed doors with the Vice President Yemi
Osinbajo.
This was the very first time such a high powered
meeting of the APC top leaders would be gathering in the office of the
vice president since inauguration of Buhari’s government.
After the meeting the reporters swam around the politicians for comments but received silent smiles.
However,
the air around the villa was heavy with rumours that they were meeting
to meet an agreement for the presidency to soft pedal on the trial of
Saraki at the Code of Conduct Tribunal over supposed false declaration
of assets.
Speaking on the development the special adviser in
Osinbajo’s office senator Femi Ojudu said that a statement would be
published on the meeting which he referred to be as “consultative
meeting” of the APC chieftains.
In a statement issued later, the
spokesman of the vice president, Mr. Laolu Akande said the meeting was
“very useful and resourceful”.
Akande was very tacit with words as he did not give information of the meeting.
It
reads: “Select leaders of the All Progressives Congress, APC, drawn
from the party’s National Headquarters, the legislative and executive
arms of government had a consultative meeting on issues affecting the
party and the nation.
“The meeting, which held at the Vice
President’s conference room, was very useful and resourceful towards
achieving the goals of the party and the government.”
