The extent of the impunity with which some officers of the Nigerian
Police operate is appalling from extortion to bribery, brutality,
miscarriage of justice and other vices. One of such is the event that
took place on Saka Tinubu street, Victoria Island at about 6 pm today
Feb 16. Eye witnesses said a staff of one of the organisations was
bashed in the head with the butt of a riffle by a team of mobile
policemen attached to a new high rise building on Akin Adesola street
after a heated argument which left the victim unconscious and a very
nasty gash on his head and he was immediately rushed to a hospital for
proper medical attention. While this was going on and the mob gathered,
another police officer was seen dashing for a civilian trying to snatch
his phone for recording the event but for the timely intervention of the
mob the man was saved from losing his phone. It was reliably gathered
that the team of mobile policemen has actually seized 2 phones from
other people while that was going on.
In the course of our
investigation, it was gathered that what happened today was as a result
of what happened between the officer and the victim and 1 other person.
At this point details are still a little sketch but we promise to give
prompt updates as soon as we get them.
Attached are pictures of the officer, the mob and one of his victim.
