house-of-assembly
The House of Representatives Standing Committee on Healthcare Services has called for the repositioning of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) and National Agency for Food, Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC).
The committee chairman, Hon. Chike Okafor, made the call at the inaugural meeting of the committee at the National Assembly complex in Abuja yesterday.
He also emphasised the need for urgent formulation of short term and long term work plan in order to guide the activities of the committee.
To achieve the feat, Okafor reiterated the commitment of the committee to “engage state governments on equipping primary health care centres scattered in different towns and villages all over the country.
“We have to come up with strategies on how to arrest the issue of medical tourism in our country and ensure that our health facilities are working so that Nigerians can enjoy good and qualitative health services,” he said.
The lawmaker also applauded the intervention of United Nations International Children Education Fund (UNICEF) by establishing primary health care centres in every ward throughout the country.
